The upcoming 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo will not only showcase athletes representing different countries around the globe, but also feature the beauty of recycling.
The Tokyo 2020 Medal Project had collected approx. 78,985 tons of electronic devices and 6.21 million used mobile phones to manufacture the gold, silver, and bronze medals for the athletes who will win at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, according to Tokyo 2020 Organization. The collection lasted for two years and was participated by 90 percent of cities, towns, and villages in Japan.
The medals made undergone the process of dismantling, extracting, and refining. The metals will be put together according to Olympic medal designer Junichi Kawanishi.
